Ortahisar Castle is an impressive rock fortress located in the Ortahisar region of Cappadocia and is known as the largest fairy chimney in the area. Rising in the very center of Ortahisar, in the heart of Cappadocia, this natural formation holds great historical importance as one of the first multi-storey settlements in the region. Surrounded on three sides by steep valleys, Ortahisar Castle was historically used for defense, shelter, and observation. The rock-carved rooms, storage areas, tunnels, and living spaces inside the castle reflect the unique rock architecture of Cappadocia. From its summit, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Cappadocia's valleys, fairy chimneys, Mount Erciyes, and surrounding settlements. Ortahisar Castle is located 6 km from Ürgüp, 15 km from Nevşehir, and only 4.5 km from Göreme Open Air Museum, making it one of the essential stops on Cappadocia travel routes.
